Producing a Youth Action Handbook (training modules). The Youth Action Handbook is in English, French and Swahili. Available for free on the project website and in the form of an interactive smartphone application by which initiatives can also post, like and share their action and motivate others to participate.
Gender Equality Research Study TA Gender Equality Research Study in the Target Region shows the gaps and shortcomings of gender equality in the Target Region and serves as a reference throughout the action to advocate for inclusiveness and gender equality.
Capacity building workshops (Goma, Gisenyi, Kampala, Mwanza) The workshops comprise of the modules presented by the Youth Action Handbook. The workshops serve as the baseline from where youth actions progressively increase their capacity over the project period.
Training of the Trainers Workshops (Goma). 2-3 Target Group members are selected per country. They are trained as trainers together with the selected trainers from the other countries in a 5-day long so they can transfer their knowledge to their youth initiative and others.
Local mini-training courses delivered by ToT graduates (in the target region). The process is organized in a structured way and through a definition of mini-training proposals (target, purpose, outputs, methods, timeline) to be developed by the ToT participants in their respective thematic field.
Subject-based regional quarterly group (video) calls. The subject-based fields comprise gender equality, environment (including natural resources) and climate change, political representation, democracy and good governance, land and inheritance, economic stability and employment, media, education, culture and religion and forced migration.
Regional Peace Summer Schools. All Target Group members from the Target Regions come together for a 1-week long annual Peace Summer School to meet, exchange and continue dialogue. Target Groups members also come together to develop action in their fields.
Sub-granting Scheme “Ideas for Action” + Mentoring Program. The application process is accompanied by the TT and the project team. At least one action per field is awarded. They must present their ideas to all TG members during the Summer School. A jury will select the grantees who will receive 1.500-2.500 EUR (Sub-granting scheme) to realize their action.
Cross-border discussions on gender. These discussions bring together 20-30 young men and women from the local communities at the border crossings of two neighboring countries to debate about prejudices, discrimination and stereotypes in a non-violent way and to seek solutions.
Local monthly radio shows. Monthly radio shows, ideally one hour each Saturday, are set up in 3 local radio stations per country and organized in cooperation with TG members. The shows discuss youth action and youth policies and highlight the role of youth as actors of change.
National Multi-Stakeholder conferences. A 2-day long national conference in each country, together the TG members and stakeholders in their country. Questions related to the stakeholders’ fields can be discussed, contact can be made. TG members can present and advocate for their work. Solutions for local problems, especially in cross-border regions can be developed.
Regional Multi-Stakeholder conference in Kigali. One big 3-day-long regional multi-stakeholder conference to bring together TG members with stakeholders of the TR to exchange, discuss and develop common solutions for improving the situation of the final beneficiaries of the Great Lakes sub-region.
Regional creative outreach activity: “Reach out, Reach high” (online). As one element presented at the Regional Multi-Stakeholder conference and on the website and its social media channels, the participating TG initiatives are asked to organize a call for creative content that addresses peer groups and prospective youth that want to be active.
Closing Phase
Best-practice publication A best-practice publication is produced to showcase success stories and the development of the project action. It is disseminated to all TGs and stakeholders and shared in the PC’s networks. An online version is uploaded to the website and produced as an interactive document.
Best-practice publication The SC, representatives of the TG and SH come together for a sustainability workshop to explore possibilities of sustaining the action after the project end through partnerships and collaborations.
