Foundation for Male Engagement Uganda (FOME) is a national Non-Governmental Organisation working to engage young men and boys in the following thematic areas: Gender and Social Justice, Peace Building, Prevention and Countering of Violent Extremism and Health Advocacy and Mobilisation. FOME is a unique pro-feminist pan-Uganda organisation working with young men and boys in advocacy, coalition building, community mobilisation campaigns, communications, mentorship and training on issues related to engaging and working with young men and boys for gender equity. FOME seeks to address a wide range of relevant issues, including conflicts, violence against women and girls, poor health-seeking behaviours, family planning and contraceptive use, fatherhood and caring, violence against women and children, and structural gender inequalities and explore the linkages between them.
FOME believes that to improve the status of adolescent girls and women and to promote gender equality; more attention should be paid to how young men and boys are involved in the achievement of social justice, peace, violence prevention as well as to the positive impact of gender equality for women and girls and the wellbeing of society as a whole. At FOME, men’s actions are for the benefit of women and girls.
FOME has trained 10,000 young men and boys as Role Model Men and Boys (RMM/B). They are trained in several aspects, including mentoring in the areas of Gender and Social Justice, Peace Building, Prevention and Countering of Violent Extremism and Health Advocacy and Mobilisation in several districts of Uganda. Our concept is premised on; sensitisation, shaped attitude and transformed behavioural change, and accountability.
