Founded in 2016, CAF is a youth focused not-for-profit organization promoting proactive citizenship, peace building and conflict resolution, good governance, natural resource justice and social economic justice rights for marginalized communities in southwestern Uganda’s conflict prone borderland Rwenzori sub-region. Our founding was inspired by the need to establish a non-state led infrastructure for providing informed peace-building , conflict resolution methodologies, countering violent extremism following unending cycles of violence in the Rwenzori sub region especially in kasese and Bundibugyo districts such as the July 5th, July 2014, and the unprecedented violence of November 2016 that left hundreds killed yet happening and an area with a rich turbulent history of marginalization and violent conflicts that include The Rwenzururu rebellion 1962-1982, Rwenzururu Freedom Movement 1982-1987, The National Resistance Army, (NRA) 1984-1986, National Army for the Liberation of Uganda (NALU) 1988-1994 and Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), 1996-2002 leaving bloodletting and painful unhealed scars in their wake.
CAF was thus founded to provide leadership in building a resiliently strong human rights, peace building and conflict Resolution CSO infrastructure in the Rwenzori region capable of ably championing peace building and social cohesion initiatives and building a strong culture of nonviolence. Our unique component areas include, Peace building and social cohesion Program (PSCP), Economic Rights Program (ERP), Civic Empowerment Program (CEP), Social Justice Program (SJP)
