Goma, January 20, 2022 - The EU co-funded project "Great Lakes Youth Network for Dialogue and Peace" is pleased to announce the next "Regional Peace School" to be held in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, from January 24-28, 2022.
The project is being executed by a consortium of organizations that have been working in the region for several years, primarily including the publicly funded German political foundation Konrad-AdenauerStiftung (KAS) - with its three country offices in DRC, Uganda and Tanzania - as well as local partners: Pole Institute in Goma, DRC; Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle (VJN) in Gisenyi, Rwanda; Cornerstone Development Africa (CDA) and LéO Africa Institute (LAI) in Kampala, Uganda; and Actions for Democracy and Local Governance (ADLG) in Mwanza, Tanzania.
The regional school will be attended by approximately 100 people from DRC, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania.Participants come from youth initiatives and other key players from politics and civil society, the private sector and development cooperation, academia, media, the EU delegation, and the various members of the project team.
It will include sessions on international affairs and development in the Great Lakes sub-region, youth activism, social affairs, mediation, peace and confidence building, as well as other areas of action regarding youth initiatives.
Finally, it will be an opportunity to meet peers and colleagues from neighboring countries, exchange experiences and build contacts in order to create lasting connections, cultural exchanges and promote dialogue to peace in the Great Lakes region. Members of the target group will also be able to develop common actions, share their best practices and methodologies, and discuss issues related to their professional fields.
‘’I’m extremely happy to finally see so many participants meeting, discussing, and exchanging. I look forward to a great week ahead and can’t wait to meet these talented and motivated youth all together.’’ Mr. Jakob Kerstan, KAS-DRC Country Representative.
The event will comply with COVID-19 public health measures and host country regulations.
